Would Nokia ever regain number one seat in phone manufacturing?

For many years, Nokia remained the unrivaled king of the Smartphone mobile industry as it roled out phones that suit consumers needs. Well known for its ruggedness and battery strength, this made Nokia a brand to recon with any day, any time.
However, as time went by, the smartphone manufacturers market became a very competitive one. Rivalry smartphone manufacturing companies like Apple, RIM(Blackberry), Android, Samsung, Lenovo, Tecno continued to invest tireless effort into their products in order to give Nokia a run for its money.
Today, Nokia no longer lays claim to the number one spot in the global smartphone market, having been displaced by Apple Incorporated as the worldwide number one single manufacturer of smartphones by revenue, profit and volume.
Nokia has never been comfortable with losing the number one seat in smartphone manufacturing, therefore, in a bid to reclaim its position back, it is partnering with Microsoft to role out smartphones that work on windows operating system, hence the name windows phones. It already has Lumia 800 and 710 running on the latest 7.5 version of the Microsoft OS available in the market.
Whether this synergy between Nokia and Microsoft would help Nokia regain its lost glory as the number one smartphone manufacturing company in the world. Only time would tell!

The risk in mobile phone addiction

Mobile Phone addiction is fast becoming a gigantic societal menace. It accounts for the largest non drug addictions situations encountered in the society today.
Many youths today derive sole companionship from their mobile phones and affirm that with their mobile phones, they can never be bored. Thus, they shy away from physical relationships and contacts with family and friends. They are always engaged in one thing or the other with their mobile phones throughout the day. Chatting, watching videos, listen to music, gaming, surfing social media networks, phone calls, sending sms e.t.c are but a few activities they engage in with their mobile phones which is gradually becoming propensities.
Even though big players in the mobile phone industry deny the fact that mobile phones emits harmful electromagnetic radiations, researches have confirmed that prolonged use of mobile phones poses severe health threat to the user.
Health conditions such as brain tumors, genetic damage, headaches, earaches, blurred vision, sleep disorders e.t.c may arise as a result of prolonged contact with mobile phones. Experts advice that to reduce the risk of mobile phones health hazard, prolonged use of phones either for calls or browsing should be discouraged, sleeping with mobile phones under the pillows or close to any of your body parts should be avoided, placing phones in breast pockets should be prohibited.
These precautionary measures should be adhere to strictly by every phone user because some of the aforementioned health conditions could lead to acute situations such as blindness, cancer, deafness and even instant death in some cases.
The propensity to remain connected to world 24/7, 365 days should be minimized by all and sundry, so that we do not find ourselves in the condition popular referred to as medical one chance.

Is having multiple phones and networks really necessary?

Most Nigerians are not comfortable with just one mobile phone and network. Most especially those in the business arena where their mobile phones form an integral part of their day to day business. Just a phone call can catapult a business man into millions. So you can imagine if he had just one mobile phone and just one network with no network coverage at that point in time. He would have lost millions! So, in order not to fall victim to poor service delivery of a particular telecoms operator, most Nigerians go for back up phones and networks so that they are connected to the world at all times.
But is it really appropriate? Well, the answer is NO! No because something is fundamentally wrong with our telecommunications system in Nigeria. In advance countries you are just fine with one phone, one network. I remember my encounter with a white man who was visiting Nigeria for the first time. The first thing he noticed about us was that everybody had two or more phones. This was so strange to him that he could not hold back his amazement. He called me and asked. Femi, why is everyone in Nigeria holding two phones? "It is crazy men! In Dubai you are just okay with one." That got me thinking. So holding two phones is an abnormal situation. Unh? But here in Nigeria we can't help it. Having multiple phones and networks, apart from network hitches, is a thing of class. The number of sophisticated phones you possess puts you in a particular kind class.
Possessing more than one phone and network is an abnormal situation, but the Nigerian factor compels us into such..
Everything still boils down to the status of our telecommunications industry in Nigeria. A lot still need to be done by our telecoms operators to meet up with international standard. They must attend to infrastructural upgrade with all sense of sincerity. They must strive to provide smooth and hitch free services at all times. That is the only way there could be a decline in this abnormality.

The middle class is gradually becoming extinct in Nigeria

It is as though we are in a military regime. The present state of the nation reminds me of those horrible days of military regime where there was no single welfare package for the people. Poverty, hunger and suffering reigned supreme. The country is gradually returning to this status with the way things are going now. The middle class is gradually being eroded. What would be left of the society in no time is a class of extremely low(poor) and extremely high(rich). Even the civil servants that form a large chunk of the middle class are sliding gradually into the low class citizens.
When Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999, it brought back the middle class that had been missing in the link for a while. Democracy converted many poor Nigerians into average Nigerians. Civil servants, small and medium scale business owners, private sector workers all had the opportunity of owning a house and buying a car. They could afford to pay their bills, observe three square meals a day as well as send their children to decent schools. All these are dying gradually. Today, I have witness the change of fortune of many average Nigerians into the poor class where they can no longer afford to pay their bills.
Many who had decent jobs had lost their jobs. Statistics showed that over 4 million jobs had been lost in the last 8 months. Crime rate is on the increase. Even long forgotten crimes like petty stealing, house burglar, car vandalism e.t.c are gradually rearing their ugly head in the society and are on the increase. Recently, it was in the news that a boy was burnt to death for stealing garri. Can you imagine? This was a clear case of hunger! Quite a pathetic story which led me into a state of sober reflection.
Am still reflecting, don't ask me why, any way, to be continued.................................................................!!!
