Why computers cannot been overtaken by other ICT devices

Many devices that perform similar functions like the computer have been developed over the years. The likes of tablets, iphones, smartphones, ipads e.t.c  are competing favorably and threatening to give the computer a run for its money. But, one powerful and unique functionality of the computer that has made it unique, outstanding and unbeatable amongst them is its editing quality. Most of these devices cannot be used to edit documents especially scanned documents. They can only be used to view these documents.  Scanned documents come in various format like pdf, doc, jpeg, png e.t.c
Only computer can edit scanned documents as well as movie, music, video and picture files. Just this single function has made the computer a superior device to all other ICT devices in its category.

Also, computer remains the best device for typing. It gives room for improvement on speed and typing skill of the user. A good number of applications can also be installed in a computer to teach how to become a good typist. The likes of Mavis Beacon and others could be explored. It is only when you can type effectively on a computer that you can regard yourself as a typist. Other ICT devices like phones, tablets, ipad e.t.c though have keypads but cannot be used for effective and voluminous typing.

The computer also accept connections to a wide range of peripheral devices like printers, scanners, embossing machines, cameras, flash disk e.t.c. Communication is established by interfacing these devices with the computer aided by a software application. Other ICT devices can only accept connection to a few peripheral devices.

Lastly, ICT devices like smartphones, tablets, ipads e.t.c can be used for personal use only. While computer satisfies both personal and public usage. Computers can be used in offices, schools, market places, companies e.t.c accommodating a wide of users and handlers.

Many have withdrawn from the race because along the line they discovered that it isn't as easy as they thought. Whether you choose to monetize your blog through 3rd party ad networks like adsense, clicksor, infolinks or sell advert spaces or even affiliate for others, no one is easy. Never listen to those who tell you that when you start a blog, automatically you start earning six figures and they persuade you to buy their books or training materials on how to make six figures blogging. Some will even tell you to quit your 9-5 job and start blogging. Don't try it! Rather, see how you can combine both then when the blog gets going and can pay your bills then you can quit your job. Yes, it is possible to earn six figures from blogging but a lot of effort, hard work, consistency, powerful contents is needed.
Blogging is not a get rich quick scheme. Linda Ikeji blogged for 4 years without making a dime. How many people can indeed be patient that long? No other thing could have been driving her other than passion. The stories of other successful bloggers like Neil Patel and co are not different from hers. You cannot erase the power passion from a successful blog. These bloggers had passion for what they did and that kept them going when the going was tough. Make passion the driving force of your blog, be consistent, don't be in a hurry to explode and don't give up. Over time, things would definitely turn around for you.

When crude oil is no longer available

Just as water in a well can dry up with time, also oil wells in the country can dry up. Nobody ever believed that one day prices of crude oil would crash drastically to the extent of plunging the country’s economy into recession.
Now we are in recession, what if crude oil dries up? Then we would enter starvation. It is better to start planning ahead rather than wait for it to happen before taken necessary action. Changes in weather conditions can affect anything on planet earth. Oil wells are no exceptions. Recall how changes in weather conditions brought about an earthquake under the ocean called tsunami, so also it can cause oil wells to dry up.
Although, nobody prays for oil wells in the country to dry up. However, a word is enough for the wise. Let us start now to plan for the unknown before it catches up with us. Moreover, this economic recession has really thought us a lesson never to depend on crude oil only. More so why the government of the day is doing everything humanly possible to diversify the economy by focusing on other areas that can equally yield foreign exchange for the country. Some areas that the government is beaming its searchlight are Agriculture and solid mineral exploration.
Nigeria is regarded as an agrarian nation. But we abandoned agriculture for oil. Now, we are forced to go back to it. The fadama rice farming project has commenced, groundnut pyramids are coming back, livestock, fish farming and  animal husbandries are spring up in every nook and cranny of the country.
Nigeria is blessed with so many solid minerals. In fact, solid minerals are scattered across the six geopolitical zones of the country. Coal can be found in Enugu, iron ore in Nassarawa, Gold in Osun, tin in Jos plateau, salt in Nassarawa, limestone in Nkalagwu etc.

Have you ever been failed by bank ATMs

The ATM card technology when it started was a perfect replacement for the manual cash withdrawal and transfer in the banking hall. Though, at the initial stage, majority of the populace were skeptical about it because of the widespread rumors about electronic card transaction fraud. Many did not buy the idea but as time progressed, people started realizing the benefits of this wonderful ICT technology. It has proved to be faster, reliable and stress free means of cash withdrawals and transfers, given card holders the privilege to withdraw and transfer money at any time. Even at night! Some even collect deposit, taken electronic transaction system to the next level. It can also be used for online transactions as well as POS transactions.
Statistics show that the population of people using ATM has grown from 10% in 2008 to 70% in 2017, though many are yet to embrace the technology.
Just as every new innovation that start with a good and promising beginning in the country, only to decline drastically after a period of time, the ATM card technology story in Nigeria is also not different.
Lately, there had been irregularities in the quality of service rendered by ATMs of almost all the financial institutions in Nigeria. The use of obsolete ATMs and slow servers by most of the banks has really really hampered the smooth flow of e-transactions. Most banks ATM outlets are characterized by long queues because of inadequate ATMs. Therefore, rendering the very essence of this technology useless. ATMs were designed for fast, efficient and stress free transactions. Today there seems to be no difference between cash withdrawal manually and the use of ATMs in terms of quickness of transaction.
Network fluctuations and failure has made the whole situation even worse. The frequency of out of service can be very alarming. Sometimes, customers wait under the sun and rain for service to return. Sometimes it can take up 30 minutes before service is finally restored. Many a time, the ATM debits you without dispensing cash. The reversal of this situation is sometimes immediate and it could also take up to 24hrs at times before the reversal is done. In extreme cases, it might require the affected customer going to the banking to complain before the reversal is carried out. This slows down the entire process making it tiresome and stressful. Many a time, a financial institution might not be available. Customers of such financial institutions get highly disappointed and frustrated whenever such message displays. This could disrupt their financial plan for that day and can be very painful.
Other problems encountered by customers include: Card seizure by machine, temporarily unable to dispense cash, insufficient funds even when customers have enough balance in their account etc.
Delay of card issuance by some financial institutions is also a cause to worry about. Customers being unable to get their cards after 3 months of application is unreasonable. Kudos to those banks that have embraced the instant issuance technology.
More so, some banks engage in auto renewal of ATM cards after expiry at the customers branch without putting into consideration that customers might relocate some where else distant from their branch. This act has deprived many the benefit of engaging in transactions using ATMs. This act should be frowned at with all vigor.

Exclusive: The uncivilized attitudes of Lagosians

Whenever strangers from within the country visit Lagos, immediately they see a society that is enveloped by the darkness. Everything they experience, observe and see seems to be upside down and chaotic. They lament, how could human beings adapt to such a life of hell without any out roar of being fed up. Just like the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti would say, “suffering and smiling.” That is the best description for the life in Lagos.
If fellow Nigerians from other states could feel this way about Lagos, then how much more strangers from outside the country. They would feel like running back after experiencing just a day in Lagos. This is one key reason preventing investors from coming into the country. Lagos is the first point of call to any investor willing to invest in the country. Nobody would want to invest in a society that is not working, upside down and chaotic. Civilization is so far away from Lagos. But to Lagosians, in fact, they are the most civilized people in the world; every other person is uncivilized. Just like a mad man who feels he is sane and everybody around him is insane. Lagosians do the wrong things in place of the right things. And when they see you trying to do the right thing, they think you are abnormal. They would even rein abuses on you saying, “don’t you know that this is Lagos?” You are not sharp; you are not smart etc; Just because you are trying to do the right thing. The story of many visitors in Lagos has been, ‘if you cannot beat them, then join them.’ So, within few days a visitor in Lagos has adapted to this life of hell and already behaving like other Lagosians.
Bookmakers describe Lagos as the second worst city to live in the world. Why would it not be; with all the uncivilized activities putting the state among the blacklisted cities of the world? Activities such as:
·         Smuggling of contraband commodities such as rice, vegetable oil, frozen turkey and chicken.
·         Begging and street hawking in every nook and cranny of the city.
·         Bribery and corruption experienced by transporters in the hands of Police, Road safety and Agberos.
·         Lawlessness
·         Pollution from noise, vehicle exhaust and company machinery.
·         Breaking of traffic rules by motorists.
·         Massive traffic jam everywhere in the state.
·         Armed robbery, kidnapping, ritual killings, scamming, drug trafficking, child trafficking by residence.
·         Bad roads and poor drainages leading to flooding whenever it rains.
·         Erratic power supply
·         Congestion, confusion and disorderliness. One can go on and on.
If we do not pay cognizance attention to these things and find a long lasting solution to them, then the so much talked about CHANGE would be a word said in the wind. Let us all CHANGE from within.
CHANGE begins with me!
