Importance of Repeaters in ICT

Hubs/Repeaters are used to connect together two or more network segments of any media type. In larger designs, signal quality begins to deteriorate as segments exceed their maximum length. Hubs provide the signal amplification required to allow a segment to be extended a greater distance. There are two kinds of hubs namely:
1. Passive hubs simply forward any data packets they receive over one port from one work station to all the remaining ports.
2. Active hubs, also sometimes referred to as multiport repeaters regenerates the data bits in order to maintain a strong signal.
An important fact to note about hubs is that they only allow users to share ethernet. A network of hub/repeaters is termed "Shared Ethernet", meaning that all members of the network are contending for transmission of data onto a single network (collision domain). This means that individual members of a shared network will only get a percentage of the available network bandwidth.

Various computer Hard drive capacities

Computer hard drive system (HDD) started with the Integrated Device Electronic technology (IDE) which had 20GB as its pioneering hard disk capacity. Later the 40GB capacity was developed, and then the 8OGB capacity and 150GB hard disk capacity were introduced. When the need arose for a higher hard disk capacity due to advancement in computer software technology, the Serial Advance Technology (SATA) hard disk system was innovated. SATA seems to be the preferred hard disk technology system for most computer manufacturing companies. SATA has various capacity ranging from 300GB, 320GB, 460GB, 500GB, 700GB and 1000GB which equivalent to 1TB (1 Terabyte). The Terabyte is the newest and highest capacity of hard drive system presently; and it is available up to 3TB (3 Terabyte) now.

Using technology as a catalyst for industrialization

Any nation that has refused to make technology advancement a priority, her economy cannot grow and become industrialized. It is only when a nation embraces technology that her economy can move to the next level and thus become industrialized.
In Nigeria today, technology is still in slumber in all its ramifications. How can we become industrialized when every consumable in the country is being imported from china; Soap, tooth pick, pin, torch lights, cars, electronics, textiles e.t.c. Non of the aforementioned are manufactured here in Nigeria.
Most of these products/commodities can actually be manufactured here in Nigeria only if we become more sensitive to our immediate surroundings. Take tooth pick for instance. What does it take to manufacture tooth pick that we have not got in Nigeria? Yet we import tooth pick from China when we have abundant raw materials to channel its production course right here in Nigeria. Tooth pick can actually be manufactured from rafia, coconut or palm tree leaves with very little production principles involved. Insensitivity to things around us has made us remained where we are today.
The Nigerian factor also has not helped matters at all. People preferring imported products/commodities to locally manufactured ones. Local industries are dieing everyday because of lack of patronage. Some of the products/commodities we import from China, we actually had local industries producing them before. These industries are liquidated today because their products/commodities could not compete with their foreign counterparts.
We still have a very long way to go. But as it is said that, the journey of thousandth miles begins with a first step. It is never too late. If we must become industrialized we must begin by encouraging, appreciating and patronizing made in Nigeria products/commodities. We still have a lot of them around. Before we know it, other countries will place orders for them and gradually we are paving our way to earning foreign exchange from that particular product/commodity.
Let every Nigerian begin to look in wards today!

It is a thing of joy and pleasure for me sharing my knowledge and experiences with others. Become a WIZIAN today! Please scroll down to the bottom of this blog and subscribe to the newsletter and get updates through emails. Not forgetting to leave a comment below after reading this post.

Visualizing IoTs as the next big thing to hit earth

The telecommunications industry in Nigeria has come a long way in a short while and is not relenting in its effort in bringing forth to the table quality and improved voice and data services to the consumers delight. The telecommunications industry in Nigeria has evolved tremendously. If we look back at the days of NITEL where analog communications was predominant with only a few hundred thousandth people having access to telecommunications facilities and to the more vibrant digital communications with millions of Nigeria having access telecommunications networks. Gone are the days when telephoning was meant strictly for the rich. Today everyone has a right to communicate and to be communicated to on phone.
Presently broadband penetration in Nigeria is put at 20% and bookmakers say come 2018 Nigeria would witness up to 40% broadband penetration.
Telecommunications experts say the future communications lies in data telecommunications. As such, researches are continually on going in this regards to improve the face of data communications. From the initial simple 2G networks, data communication has evolved to a faster 3G technology and now to the ever sophisticated 4G networks. Experts say the best is yet to come as researches are already on going into the 5G technology which researchers say would become a reality come 2020.
With a long list of expectations when this technology finally kicks off, there is no doubt that 5G networks would bring about a revolution in telecommunications industry of the world. It would be the major driving force of the much talk about about internet of things (IoTs) i.e objects possessing network connectivity as well has humans. On the surface we have seen a little of what internet of things (IoTs) can do with the invention and demonstration of self driven cars powered solely by internet of things (IoTs). Experts proclaim that even greater innovations and inventions would rock this epoch when the 5G technology is finally actualized. Bookmakers see internet of things (IoTs) as the next big thing that would change the face of the earth.
