A missing feature in laptops and desktops.

Microsoft and other operating system developers need to incorporate phone system into their operating system so that laptops and Pcs can utilize SIM card just like mobile phones. This one great feature missing in laptops and Pcs. Users should be able to make and receive calls, whatsapp, send SMSes and browse directly with a network SIM card on their laptops and Pcs.
Trust computer manufacturers, once operating system developers are able to do this, they will manufacture laptops and desktops that can accommodate network SIM card. This would invariably reduce the popularity of modems, tablets ipads and mobile phones.

Affiliate promotions

What is Affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketing is simply referring people to check out particular products and when they make purchases as a result of your referrals, you earn commissions on the products.
Many people are interested in Affiliate promotions but do not know how to go about it. Here are the fundamentals of becoming a seasoned Affiliate marketer.
1. Set up your blog/website and identify with a niche you are very passionate about. Setting up a blog takes nothing because there are several free hosting domains such as blogger, wordpress, joomla, drupal e.t.c to get started with. But to be more professional, purchasing a hosted domain isn't a bad idea.

2. Register with an Affiliate program. There are quite a number of them like Amazon, Ebay, Commission junction, Clickbank, Shareasale, Ejunkie e.t.c as foreign Affiliate programs and Jumia, Konga, Dealdey, Kaymu, Jiji e.t.c as Nigerian Affiliate programs.

3. Select your referral products. Mind you, products must be related to your blog/website niche.

4. Generate banners or link codes for the products and paste it on your blog/website life page.

5. Make reviews of the products on your blog/website. Give a concise description of the products,
advantages of purchasing and using the products, testimonies of your very self using the product as well as your relationship with the companies of manufacture. That gives would be buyers the confidence to check out the products by clicking on the banners or links.

6. Continue to promote your reviews of the products on social media network platforms like facebook, twitter, linkedin, instagram, tagged e.t.c to attract buyers until you make sales. Most times, potential customers you meet on social media networks do not know what to do. So, you have to tell them what to do. Therefore, your product review must carry affiliate links like: click here to buy, buy now etc.

7. Earn commissions whenever sales are made on the products when quality visitors are referred to the products through the banners or links. Commissions are strictly base on purchases made on the products by the visitors.
It is worth noting that success with Affiliate marketing depends on the choice of products for referrals and the amount of compensations the companies are willing to pay as commissions. So always select products with high market demands from companies with good Affiliate marketing track record partnership.

Challenges faced by new websites

Never expect to launch a website today and start getting massive loads of traffic automatically. No matter what your site is all about, what it can do or offer, you must invest time and effort to make it generally acceptable by people and thus gain traffic. Here are common problems encountered by new websites:

Firstly, new websites are faced with the problem of popularity. No short cut about! You must use other already popular websites to popularize your website. Facebook for instance made use of yahoo to gain popularity. I remembered that I was compelled to sign up for Facebook through yahoo. Most successful websites today used Google, Facebook etc to become visible and discoverable online. Therefore, you must do likewise if your site must be popular.

Secondly, new websites are faced with the issue of being indexed by Google and Bing webmaster. For your site to appear on Google and Bing searches, it must first and foremost be indexed by them. Make that effort to get your site indexed by Google and Bing, otherwise, your site would be regarded as not being SEO friendly. For Google you must have a Gmail account and For Bing you must have an Outlook(Hotmail) account. Appearing on Google and Bing search engines can drive tremendous traffic to your website.

Thirdly, there is the problem of competition with other websites that offer similar services as your website. No matter what your site can do or offer, there are sites out there that can do three times better. To stand out, you need to go the extra miles to outshine your competitors. This can be achieved by improving the general appearance of your site, using a supper fast server that aids fast loading of your site, joining groups and forums which brings about cordial relationship with other site owners, writing good and powerful contents, if you run your site as a blog, proffer easy solutions to problems and ensuring that your site is fun filled.

The need for an ICTpaedia

If you find yourself in the ICT business of today, you must be ready to acquaint yourself with a lot of abbreviations and terminologies because ICT study and profession is characterized by uncountable abbreviations and terminologies which is currently changing the face of the English dictionary. Even the name ICT is an abbreviation meaning Information and Communications Technology. So from its title to the minutest topic in ICT contains all sorts of abbreviations and terminologies.
In my own opinion, I think we ICT professionals need acronym and ICT terminologies compilation book in form of an encyclopaedia  that we could visit from time to time for better understanding if need be.
To mention but a few ICT abbreviations and terminologies are DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration protocol), IP(Internet Protocol) TCP(Transmission Configuration Protocol), SEO(Search Engine Optimization) OSI(Open System Internetwork), IOS(Internetwork Operating System), TELNET(Telecommunications Network), HTTP(Hypertext Transfer Protocol) WAMP SERVER(Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP), ITIL(IT Infrastructural Library), SQL(Structural Querry Language), PHP(Hypertext Preprocessor), HTML(Hypertext Mark up Language), WI FI(Wireless Fidelity), ARP(Address Resolution Protocol), RJ 45(Register Jack 45), CCNA(Cisco Certified Network Associate), IoTs(Internet of Things) BTS(Base Transceiver Station), FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions), UTP(Unshielded Twisted Pair), LAN(Local Area Network), WLAN(Wide Area Network), IDE(Integrated Device Electronics), SATA(Serial Advance Technology) e.t.c. The list is vast and unlimited. More and more ICT advancement continue to roll out everyday leading to a continuous increase in the number of ICT abbreviations. Definitely there is going to be no end to ICT abbreviations because a lot of discoveries are yet to be uncovered in the ICT world.
ICT has made the world a better place for everyone and will continue to change the face of the world. Now the world is talking about internet of things(IoTs) as the next big thing to happen in the ICT arena. Internet of things(IoTs) would be powered effectively by the 5G technology of which researchers say by the year 2020 would become a reality.

Requesting for Government support for indigeneous ICT companies

The Nigerian factor of preference to foreign commodities rather than home made products is really affecting and gradually killing our indigenous ICT companies. This is one of the biggest challenged faced by local software and hardware IT industries in the country. Most of them are on the verge of collapse because of lack of patronage.
This is the reason why the Nigeria Computer Society is calling out on the government to implement policies that support local content patronage in ministries, departments, organizations, corporate bodies and agencies.
This is the only way government can assist the local IT industries and boost their morale for continual research, innovations and inventions that will bring about social and economic development, create real wealth and jobs.

Nigeria going digital

After missing the June 2015 target scheduled for switch over by Nigeria from analog broadcast to digital broadcast, a later date in 2016 was given which has also past without switch over. Now, before 2017 runs out has been set aside as the final date for this switch over from analog to digital broadcasting. Nigerians are optimistic that nothing is going to hinder and obstruct this switch over. It is high time we moved with the rest of the world who have since abandon analog broadcasting for digital broadcasting.
Analog broadcasting involves the use of an outdoor antenna whose direction has to be changed periodically for better reception. Analog broadcasting is characterize by poor picture quality, interference, ghosting, poor audio quality e.t.c. In analog broadcasting, outdoor antenna has to be launched very high and well positioned to get the best reception. Analog broadcasting makes use of frequencies like the UHF (Ultra High Frequency) and VHF (Very High Frequency). UHF are radio frequencies between 300MHz and 3GHz range of frequencies. They are sometimes referred to as decimetre band because their wavelengths is in the range of 1 meter to 1 decimetre. They are applied in television broadcasting, satellite communications e.t.c
VHF on the other hand are radio frequencies in the range of 30MHz to 300MHz. They are used in FM radio broadcast, television broadcast, air traffic control, marine communications e.t.c
Digital broadcasting uses a decoder for its broadcast and is characterized by high picture & sound quality, variety of channels, regular program guide, ability to record programs for future reference e.t.c.
