The reason micro telecommunications firms fizzle out

It is quite sad that bigger telecommunications operators who are supposed to be role models for the smaller ones find themselves rendering services that should be left for the smaller telecommunications operators.
Take for instance a situation whereby a bigger  telecommunications operator well known for selling bandwidth to ISPs is also involved in the sales of megabytes data to subscribers. This should be left solely for the smaller operators who deal mainly on retail telecommunications.
The Government too has failed to help matters. They give foreign  telecommunications operators preference at the expense of the local ones. This has generated a lot of adverse effects on the smaller operators because they are unable to compete favorably with these foreign counterparts.
What do we get? The dreams of these micro  telecommunications operators that one day they will become macro telecommunications operators is jeopardized by government policies. Unable to withstand all of this leads to instability until they are finally liquidated completely.

Airtel & Globacom tussle for supremacy

No telecommunications company is contesting the number one telecommunications network in Nigeria with South Africa's telecommunications giant, MTN. Meanwhile, there seems to be an under ground tussle between Indian telecommunications giant Airtel and Nigeria number one carrier Globacom Nigeria on who best deserves the position of the second largest network operator in Nigeria. Globacom for sometime had occupied that position and was regarded as second largest network in Nigeria. Airtel is not relenting, waxing stronger day by day and has almost bridged the gap between it and Globacom.
Globacom currently leads Airtel only by market share. While Globacom has 23% market share value, Airtel has 21% market share value, which means Airtel is lagging behind Globacom by just 2%.
In no time Airtel and Globacom will be on head to head with each and Airtel is likely to gain the upper hand after the tie.
Etisalat, we know, still remains the baby of the industry. It there not rub it shoulders with the likes of MTN, Airtel and Globacom

Nigeria is a fertile ground for all telecommunications network

Most telecommunications companies that found their way into the Nigerian market have continued to thrive in their businesses because Nigeria offers the largest market opportunities to them.
This can be said to be as a result of the large population presence in Nigeria. This has made Nigeria a fertile land for any telecommunications company to cultivate on and harvest in multiple as time goes on. Even operators like Etisalat that came into the country a bit late have been able to find their feet and carved out a niche for themselves, attracting their own unique customers.
To further assist telecommunications operators in Nigeria to gain more grounds and increase their successes, necessities like reliable and cost-effective power supply, protection of infrastructure from vandalism, multiple taxation, government commitment to the National Broadband plan, spectrum availability and adequacy must be put in place.

Repeaters

Hubs/Repeaters are used to connect together two or more network segments of any media type. In larger designs, signal quality begins to deteriorate as segments exceed their maximum length. Hubs provide the signal amplification required to allow a segment to be extended a greater distance. There are two kinds of hubs namely:
1. Passive hubs simply forward any data packets they receive over one port from one work station to all the remaining ports.
2. Active hubs, also sometimes referred to as multiport repeaters regenerates the data bits in order to maintain a strong signal.
An important fact to note about hubs is that they only allow users to share ethernet. A network of hub/repeaters is termed "Shared Ethernet", meaning that all members of the network are contending for transmission of data onto a single network (collision domain). This means that individual members of a shared network will only get a percentage of the available network bandwidth.

And windows evolved!

Bill Gate is the brain behind Microsoft Corporation. A company based in the United States of America which has spread it tentacles into all businesses and offices all over the world. The Microsoft Office package remains a unique package that every business and office cannot do without all over the world. Microsoft is a company that has distinguished itself when it comes to software programming, rolling out various software that has made a lot of difficult task as easy as ABC. Bill Gate, a school drop out, founded Microsoft at a time when the world was yearning for a complete technological revolution . It all started with a humble beginning when Xerox a world class technological company needed set a of programing algorithm that could perform certain function and ease off some challenges that the company was facing. Bill Gate stepped into the picture presenting a set algorithm that solved this problem. Bill Gate not relenting on his effort continued to perfect his hands on writing program algorithm until he wrote a set of algorithm that changed the world. That was the beginning of Microsoft. Microsoft has continued to wax stronger year in year out, improving on every bit of what it already had on ground.
Microsoft Operating Systems called Windows had undergone a lot of evolution in recent times. Starting with the Disk Operating System (DOS) and then evolved to Windows 98. Then came Windows 2000 which gave birth to Windows XP. Windows XP was a big break through for Microsoft Corporation because of its user friendly interface and exciting Graphics user interface (GUI).
Window Vista was an improvement on XP. Microsoft felt it needed to add more exciting features to what it already had ground which were not available on XP. Windows Vista provided a platform for this.
The quest for speed, performance and better graphics interface made Microsoft to upgrade Vista to Windows 7. Window 7 remains Microsoft best graphics operating system.
Then came Windows 8 which was more like a phone operating system in appearance, because mobile phone operating are really trendy now. Windows 8 was slightly improved to Windows 8.1. Though, not much glaring differences between Windows 8 and 8.1.
Today, windows 10 is the most recent operating system from the stable of Microsoft. Windows 10 was developed to cover up for the lapses of windows 8 and 8.1. Modern models of most laptops and desktop are currently powered on windows 10.

Would Nokia ever regain its popularity in the smartphone market?

For many years, Nokia remained the unrivaled king of the Smartphone mobile industry as it roled out phones that suit consumers needs. Well known for its ruggedness and battery strength, this made Nokia a brand to recon with any day, any time.
However, as time went by, the smartphone manufacturers market became a very competitive one. Rivalry smartphone manufacturing companies like Apple, RIM(Blackberry), Android, Samsung, Lenovo, Tecno continued to invest tireless effort into their products in order to give Nokia a run for its money.
Today, Nokia no longer lays claim to the number one spot in the global smartphone market, having been displaced by Apple Incorporated as the worldwide number one single manufacturer of smartphones by revenue, profit and volume.
Nokia has never been comfortable with losing the number one seat in smartphone manufacturing, therefore, in a bid to reclaim its position back, it is partnering with Microsoft to role out smartphones that work on windows operating system, hence the name windows phones. It already has Lumia 800 and 710 running on the latest 7.5 version of the Microsoft OS available in the market.
Whether this synergy between Nokia and Microsoft would help Nokia regain its lost glory as the number one smartphone manufacturing company in the world. Only time would tell!

Mobile phones have become the favorite internet access device in Nigeria

Most Nigerians gain access to the internet through their mobile phones rather than the use of laptops and personal computers. Statistics show that more than 80% of Nigerians use their phones to browse.
The proposed broadband policy of the government which aims at connecting more 85% of Nigerians to the net come 2019 will further increase the number mobile phones internet access users.
Today, Nigerians are going for better and higher quality smartphones, tablets, iphones and laptops because of internet connection. They no longer use the conventional desktop or ordinary mobile phones which limits their constant and consistent connection to the internet.
It is a well known fact that most online services are performed by Nigerians on their mobile phone with a greater percentage accessing the social network sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Instagram, Eskimi, Tagged with their phones. Using of phone to browse has over shadowed the use of laptops and desktop computes to access the internet presently in Nigeria.

Hard disk system

The hard disk of a computer is the largest and permanent storage location of a computer. The operating system of any computer is loaded directly on to the hard disk and all other default files or folders are located in one place or the other in the hard disk.
Hard disk can be partitioned during the process of formatting and operating system installation. Therefore, after partitioning a hard disk the various partition can be categorized into root partition usually drive C:, recovery partition otherwise referred to as drive E: and the back up partition which can take from F:, G:, H:, and continues as the case may be. Drive D: in most cases is left for the CD/DVD ROM.
The root hard disk, drive C:, is where the operating system is loaded. Every other files and folders that make the computer work properly are saved in this drive. All installation of applications and software programs are also done on this drive.
Most contemporary computers have recovery hard disk. The recovery hard disk, drive E:, is the compartment where all default settings, system drivers and restore point are stored for ease of accessibility when needed.
The back up hard disk, drive F: downwards, serves as a supporting and saving grace tool whenever there is root hard disk failure i.e whenever drive C: fails. All files and folders saved in the back up hard drive can easily be retrieved whenever the root hard drive fails and needs to be formatted.
Hard disk technology has witness a lot of advancement. Hard disk technology started with the integrated device electronic (IDE) technology. With this technology, hard disk capacity ranging from 10GB, 20GB, 40GB, 80GB, 160GB and 250GB were developed.
The quest for larger storage capacity due to software advancement which the IDE technology could not withstand, the serial advance technology hard disk (SATA) was developed in order to increase the storage capacity of computers. SATA hard disk has storage capacities ranging from 80GB, 150GB, 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and even 1 terabyte.
Today, the world is talking about cloud storage technology as the new evolution in computer storage system. Cloud storage capacity is very vast and it is very handy, that gives it preference over IDE and SATA technology.

Routers

A router is a device in computer network that forwards data packets to their destination based on their addresses. The work a router does is called routing which is somewhat like switching. A router is different from a switch because it breaks broadcast domain while switch breaks collision domain. Hence with the aid of a router, computers in different networks can communicate and share network resources such as files and printer. A switch on the other hand is simply used to form an active LAN.
Routing is the act of moving information across an internetwork from a source to a destination. It is often contrasted with bridging which performs similar function. The primary difference between the two is that bridging occurs at layer 2 (the link layer) of the OSI reference model, whereas routing occurs at layer 3 (the network layer). This destination provides routing and bridging with different information to use in the process of moving information from source to destination, so the two functions accomplish their tasks in different ways.
Routers use information within each packet to route it from one LAN to another, and communicate with each other and share information that allows them to determine the best route through a complex network of many LANS such as ethernet, fast ethernet and Gigabit ethernet.

ICT support for physically challenged people

It is very pathetic that most ICT and telecommunications companies operating in the country never take cognizance notice and consideration for the physically impaired citizens when rolling out products and services. Yet these people form a sector of the total population of the country.
Physically challenged citizens such as the blind, lame and crippled yearn for recognition from these companies and also want to partake in whatever products and services their able counterparts are benefiting from these companies.
Any ICT or telecoms company that eventually put these physically impaired ones into it agenda and program when rolling out products and services would definitely experience an increase in its subscriber base. This could even catapult them to a position enviable by all.
Recollect the tussle between Globacom Nigeria and Airtel Nigeria for supremacy and who deserves to be second leading telecoms company in Nigeria? If Airtel could roll out innovative products and services that suits the physically challenged citizens, it might end up surpassing Globacom to become the second leading telecoms company in the country. Similarly, on the other hand, if Globacom could also do likewise, then it would also help to keep Airtel at bay.
The financial institution are also not left out. Nothing wrong if a bank could position its ATMs in such a way that a person on wheel chair could use the ATM to carry out transactions. Braille facility can also be incorporated into the ATMs so that the blind and visually impaired can use the ATMs.

Getting certified by Google

All information and communication technology (ICT) institute in Nigeria must work towards this goal i.e getting certified by Google. This certification is awarded to only companies that have distinguished themselves in the implementation of Google products like Google Adwords and Google Adsense.
A lot of reward comes with this certification for any company so fortunate to be identified by Google. It can automatically bring the company to lime light in the international arena.
It also reposes confidence in customers and would be customers that doing business with the company would be worthwhile.
Becoming a Google partner opens great doors for any company because similar accredited international companies would be longing and interested in doing business with them.
Getting a Google certification is really a thing of honor for any information and communication technology (ICT) institute that work towards achieving it.

Phone charging problems

There are few types of charging problem such as not charging, no charging response and charger not supported.

  • Issues of "not charging" shows on a display when a charger is being plug in. This problem occurs when a required current or voltage is not enough to boost up and charge the mobile phones battery. One reason for the occurrence of this problem is a faulty BSI line. A BSI line is a battery size indicator that tells the charging control circuit the battery working status. The battery has a BSI output indicator terminal that is connected to its negative terminal with desired value of resistor on it.
  • Another charging problem issue is the No charging response when a battery charger is plug-in. A faulty protection circuit section is a major cause of this. It occurs when there is no voltage delivery to the charging circuit indicators and controls.
  • If the protection circuit breaks down, it will result to "charging no response" situation. A check of all components for short and open circuit starting from the fuse, to the coil and diode.
  • Charger not supported problem is caused by a faulty BTEMP thermistor component.  BTEMP means battery temperature. It monitors the battery temperature status during a charging status. If BTEMP thermistor is faulty it won't allow any charger to proceed to charging stage.

The unbeatable computer application

Can anyone confirm if there is any rivalry alternative software application program to Microsoft Office package. Unlike other computer application programs that have alternatives, there seems to be no competition for Microsoft Office application.
Windows operating system has competitors like MAC operating system, LINUX, Android operating system etc. There are varieties of browsers other than Internet explorer such as Firefox, Safari, Opera, Google chrome etc. What about media players? So many better alternatives other than window media player like Video Lan Coverage (VLC media player), Total Video converter media player (TVC), media monkey, itunes e.t.c. Anti virus software are uncountable-Avast, McAfee, Eset, Panda e.t.c There are other Graphics software other than Corel draw like Nero Graphics suite, Instant Artist, Print Artist, Autocad e.t.c. But am yet to see an alternative for Microsoft Office software.
No computer is complete until Microsoft Office has been fully installed. Even the mobile phone version is now available. Therefore, users of smartphones, iphones, tablets, ipad can get their office work done on their devices.
Microsoft office package has proved itself over and over again to be the only complete and perfect application for office use. Hence no software company is thinking of modifying it or coming out with a better office package.
From Ms Word, Ms Excel to Ms Power point, they all give users an exciting computing experience, making office work as easy as ABC.
A large chunk of Microsoft success came as a result of its distinguished and unique office package. Microsoft in its tireless and not relenting nature has continued to improve on its office software almost on  yearly bases. With office 2003, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2013 representing the contemporary office packages.

Vandalism of Telecoms Insfrastructure in Nigeria

According to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, "Vandalism is the crime of deliberately damaging things, especially public property. Though the dictionary defines Vandalism as a deliberate act, it can also be rightly said that Vandalism can be an in-deliberate act as we would realize in the course of this article.
Vandalism of telecoms installations has become a frequent occurrence in the nation today and this is very disheartening. Vandalism of telecoms infrastructure can be a deliberate or in-deliberate act as the case may be.
Deliberate Vandalism of telecoms equipment is most at times as a result of hoodlum's activities in the area. This is very rampant in the North eastern part of the country where the Boko Haram insurgency thrives. A lot of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) had been vandalized or more rightly put, destroyed due to terrorist activities in these areas. This has led to unavoidable communications hitches such drop calls, no network coverage e.t.c. in these locations. Telecoms companies wallow in pains as they count their losses whenever their equipment are destroyed by terrorist.
Telecoms operators lose millions of naira to Vandal's activities which affects the quality of service delivery and a lot of money is spent to resuscitate damaged equipment.
About N24,750,000 is expended during the installation of a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) together with its towers, special antennas and two generators to power the station. So whenever a Base Transceiver Station  (BTS) is destroyed, it can be imagined what the telecoms company has lost.
In-deliberate Vandalism on the other hand occurs as a result of construction work around areas where  telecoms installations are present. A very good example is during the construction of roads in areas where fibre optic cables are laid. This can lead to cable cut resulting in telecommunications breakdown.
It is on record that an average of 70 fibre optic cables are cut on  a monthly bases due to construction work across Nigeria.
MTN in particular said due to fibre optic cable cut, it had lost of network signal in about 1000 base station across the country recently.
Therefore telecoms companies are appealing to the general public to be vigilante and report any suspicious activities around telecoms installations.

Internet of Things (IoTs)

Many people are still confused and unable to visualize the possibility of internet of things (IoTs). Internet of things (IoTs) sometimes referred to as internet of everything is the possibility of objects like automobiles with inbuilt sensors, houses, smart thermostat, biochip transponders on farm animals, electric clams in coastal waters having network connectivity as well as humans and are able to exchange data with their manufacturer or operator.
Objects that are internet of things (IoTs) complaint can be controlled remotely within the confines of their network bringing about integration between the physical world and computer based system, hence promoting accuracy, efficiency, speed which results in great economic transformation.
Internet of things (IoTs) is the next big thing to happen in the world of ICT. The 4G network which some telecoms operators in the country are already laying claims to have is going to be the major driving force when Nigeria finally becomes part of the internet of things campaign that is already ongoing in most advanced countries of the world today.
Internet of things (IoTs) stands as an upgrade to the conventional machine-to-machine (M2M) communications because of its advance network connectivity using transducers for signal conversion, therefore a lot of protocols, domains and applications are involved.

Why Inverters are not preferable to Generators

Inverters are great sources of electricity supply. Most especially in a country like ours where the Power sector is in comatose. Despite the awareness created by most Inverter companies about the advantages of having an Inverter, most Nigerians still prefer a Generator set to an Inverter. The reasons for this are not far fetched.

Firstly, Inverters are very expensive. A Generator of the same capacity is three times cheaper.

Secondly, Inverters are very cumbersome to install and requires the professional hands of an expert. This discourages many a people from acquiring one.

Thirdly, an Inverter cannot run on standalone. Users of Inverters still require a Generator set of higher capacity or electricity supply for the purpose of charging its batteries. So, owning an Inverter is seen as double expenses by most people.

Lastly, the cost of maintenance in times of breakdown can be very exorbitant. Most especially battery replacement can be very capital intensive.

Gone are the days!

Yeah, gone are the days when parents restrict or discourage their children from venturing into certain professions or careers such as playing football, music or even acting. These professions have become one of the greatest money spinners in the world today. They have overtaken the likes of medicine, engineering or even law in terms revenue in flow.
Today, you here that a certain footballer or musician is worth so-so and so million pounds or dollars. Same cannot be said of a doctor, lawyer or even engineer.
In those days when parents catch their children playing football or moving with a musical group, they are in for it. This is changing now. Parents are now re-orientating themselves that the world has changed a great deal and professions they regarded as for drop out in past are now the money spinners and you could combine these professions together with going to school.
Parents even now pay for studio sessions for the children’s song recording. Encouragement you say! Acting, football and musical academy are spring up all over, teaching these acts as well as formal education.
