Focusing on untapped resources in the country

A nation so blessed with different natural resources but choose to put all her eggs in one basket.  Placing her entire weight on just one resource, leaving others untapped, fallowing and completely neglected.
Nigeria’s economy is largely dependent on oil for revenue. The fall of oil price in the international market has had a negative impact on the nation’s economy. The Nigerian economy has since nose dived as it were. The recent deregulation of the petroleum sector by the government has brought about untold hardship on Nigerians. This has made it mandatory for Nigeria as a nation to seek and discover alternative sources of income other than oil.
In this vain, the ministry of solid minerals is working tirelessly to diversify the economy by exploring other natural resources other oil, harnessing them to become good foreign exchange earner for the country. To achieve this, it is partnering with foreign expatriate from Australia and the U.S who have agreed to use their expertise to conduct thorough solid mineral exploration in the country. The ministry is also sensitizing miners at state and local level to obtain appropriate licensing which gives them the freedom to explore and mine solid minerals anywhere in the country. They are advised on the need to obtain both exploration and mining license which qualifies them to operate as miners in the country.
Some solid minerals found in large deposit in the country include Limestone, Coal, Tin, Columbite, Iron ore, Gold, Clay, Lead, Zinc e.t.c
Coal: It is found in large deposit in Enugu. It is the country’s oldest commercial source of fuel. It was used extensively by the Nigerian Railway Corporation to drive their trains. Hence the name Coal city which Enugu is popularly referred to is attributed to its large deposit of coal.
Columbite: It is found in Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kogi, Plateau and Nassarawa states. Columbite ore is used as an alloy of steel to form weldable high speed steel for radio transmitting valves and heat sensitive detective devices.
Clay: It is found in large deposit in Nassarawa state. It is used for making bricks and ceramics. Brick are used in building houses, kilns and furnaces.
Limestone: It can be found in Cross River, Benue, Sokoto, Borno. It is formed as a result of crystallization from seawater or shell fragment accumulation. It is used for making paint, toothpaste, detergents, ceramics, cosmetics, soaps e.t.c. It can also be used in building sculptures and monuments.
Tin: It is found in Jos plateau and can be used to manufacture paint, paper ink e.t.c.
Gold: it is found in large deposit in osun state

An Ultra connected nation

Nigeria technological ecosystem is advancing and developing very fast that an ultra connected society is inevitable. The telecommunications industry in Nigeria is harnessing its resources to ensure that Nigeria evolves her networks towards ultra-broadband connectivity and IP networking technologies.
To achieve this, a lot of infrastructural upgrade is required in order to attain the desired capacities capable of driving the ultra-broadband network for value added services that benefits end users in both remote and civilized areas.
An ultra connected society is one characterized by fast and easy connections to everything whenever and wherever.
The vastness of an ultra-broadband connected society cannot be over emphasized. Sure, rapidity in service delivery wherever it is put to work is assured. It gives the end users a satisfying experience, making a high quality life possible while delivering social and economic benefits to all in whatever aspect it is applied, be it in healthcare delivery, education, business, entertainment e.t.c.

Oil wells are no exceptions

Just as water in a well can dry up with time, also oil wells in the country can dry up. Nobody ever believed that one day prices of crude oil would crash drastically to the extent of plunging the country’s economy into recession.
What if crude oil dries up? Then we would enter starvation. It is better to start planning ahead rather than wait for it to happen before taken necessary action. Changes in weather conditions can affect anything on planet earth. Oil wells are no exceptions. Recall how changes in weather conditions brought about an earthquake under the ocean called tsunami, so also it can cause oil wells to dry up.
Although, nobody prays for oil wells in the country to dry up. However, a word is enough for the wise. Let us start now to plan for the unknown before it catches up with us. Moreover, this economic recession has really thought us a lesson never to depend on crude oil only. More so why the government of the day is doing everything humanly possible to diversify the economy by focusing on other areas that can equally yield foreign exchange for the country. Some areas that the government is beaming its searchlight are Agriculture and solid minerals exploration.
Nigeria is regarded as an agrarian nation. But we abandoned agriculture for oil. Now, we are forced to go back to it. The fadama rice farming project has commenced, groundnut pyramids are coming back, livestock, fish farming and  animal husbandries are spring up in every nook and cranny of the country.
Nigeria is blessed with so many solid minerals. In fact, solid minerals are scattered across the six geopolitical zones of the country. Coal can be found in Enugu, iron ore in Nassarawa, Gold in Osun, tin in Jos plateau, salt in Nassarawa, limestone in Nkalagwu etc.

It gladdens my heart whenever I am permitted to share my thoughts, knowledge and experiences with others. Become a WIZIAN today! Scroll down to the bottom of this blog, subscribe to our mailing list and get news update from us. Don't forget to leave a comment below after reading this post.

Why Lagos is one of the blacklisted cities of world

Whenever strangers from within the country visit Lagos, immediately they see a society that is enveloped by the darkness. Everything they experience, observe and see seems to be upside down and chaotic. They lament, how could human beings adapt to such a life of hell without any out roar of being fed up. Just like the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti would say, “suffering and smiling.” That is the best description for the life in Lagos.
If fellow Nigerians from other states could feel this way about Lagos, then how much more strangers from outside the country. They would feel like running back after experiencing just a day in Lagos. This is one key reason preventing investors from coming into the country. Lagos is the first point of call to any investor willing to invest in the country. Nobody would want to invest in a society that is not working, upside down and chaotic. Civilization is so far away from Lagos. But to Lagosians, in fact, they are the most civilized people in the world; every other person is uncivilized. Just like a mad man who feels he is sane and everybody around him is insane. Lagosians do the wrong things in place of the right things. And when they see you trying to do the right thing, they think you are abnormal. They would even rein abuses on you saying, “don’t you know that this is Lagos?” You are not sharp; you are not smart etc; Just because you are trying to do the right thing. The story of many visitors in Lagos has been, ‘if you cannot beat them, then join them.’ So, within few days a visitor in Lagos has adapted to this life of hell and already behaving like other Lagosians.
Bookmakers describe Lagos as the second worst city to live in the world. Why would it not be; with all the uncivilized activities putting the state among the blacklisted cities of the world? Activities such as:
·         Smuggling of contraband commodities such as rice, vegetable oil, frozen turkey and chicken.
·         Begging and street hawking in every nook and cranny of the city.
·         Bribery and corruption experienced by transporters in the hands of Police, Road safety and Agberos.
·         Lawlessness
·         Pollution from noise, vehicle exhaust and company machinery.
·         Breaking of traffic rules by motorists.
·         Massive traffic jam everywhere in the state.
·         Armed robbery, kidnapping, ritual killings, scamming, drug trafficking, child trafficking by residence.
·         Bad roads and poor drainages leading to flooding whenever it rains.
·         Erratic power supply
·         Congestion, confusion and disorderliness. One can go on and on.
If we do not pay cognizance attention to these things and find a long lasting solution to them, then the so much talked about CHANGE would be a word said in the wind. Let us all CHANGE from within.
CHANGE begins with me!

Prolonged use of mobile phones health threat

Mobile Phone addiction is fast becoming a gigantic societal menace. It accounts for the largest non drug addictions situations encountered in the society today.
Many youths today derive sole companionship from their mobile phones and affirm that with their mobile phones, they can never be bored. Thus, they shy away from physical relationships and contacts with family and friends. They are always engaged in one thing or the other with their mobile phones throughout the day. Chatting, watching videos, listen to music, gaming, surfing social media networks, phone calls, sending sms e.t.c are but a few activities they engage in with their mobile phones which is gradually becoming propensities.
Even though big players in the mobile phone industry deny the fact that mobile phones emits harmful electromagnetic radiations, researches have confirmed that prolonged use of mobile phones poses severe health threat to the user.
Health conditions such as brain tumors, genetic damage, headaches, earaches, blurred vision, sleep disorders e.t.c may arise as a result of prolonged contact with mobile phones. Experts advice that to reduce the risk of mobile phones health hazard, prolonged use of phones either for calls or browsing should be discouraged, sleeping with mobile phones under the pillows or close to any of your body parts should be avoided, placing phones in breast pockets should be prohibited.
These precautionary measures should be adhere to strictly by every phone user because some of the aforementioned health conditions could lead to acute situations such as blindness, cancer, deafness and even instant death in some cases.
The propensity to remain connected to world 24/7, 365 days should be minimized by all and sundry, so that we do not find ourselves in the condition popular referred to as medical one chance.
