Why Smartphones, tablets, iphones, ipads cannot replace computer

The idea of a computer was conceived when the need arose for a device that can render approximately the function of the human brain with much speed and less work.   Thus, computer started with a simple device called the abacus which evolved into main frame computers that gave rise to sophisticated digital computers as we have today.

Digital computers also, has witness remarkable evolution in both form and capacity.  Today’s digital computer come in different forms like desktop, Laptop, palmtop, rolltop and the latest all in one desktop form which comprises of monitor, keyboard, system unit and mouse all sandwiched in one device.

Also, we can rate a digital computers  in terms of its processor speed and capacity. Comptemporary digital computer started with the Pentium series popular referred to as P1, P2,P3 and P4 computers. Then came the faster core i series referred to as core i3, i5 and i7 computers

Softwares too, were not left out in this changing process in the computer world of today. Both operating and application software have undergone tremendous  modifications. Comptemporary  Windows operating now exist in like seven versions namely XP, Vista, Window 7, Windows 8, Windows8.1 and most recent windows 10.  Newer versions of most application softwares are no longer compatible with older versions of windows operating system and most of them require pre-requisite applications like java, .net framework, adobe packages e.t.c  before they can install and function properly.

Many devices that perform similar functions like the computer have been developed over the years. The likes of tablets, iphones, smartphones, ipads e.t.c  are competing favorably  and threatening to give the computer a run for its money. But one powerful and unique functionality of the computer that has made it unique, outstanding and unbeatable amongst them is its editing quality. Most of these devices cannot be used to edit documents especially scanned documents. They can only be used to view these documents.  Scanned documents come in various format like pdf, doc, jpeg, png e.t.c

Only computer can  edit scanned documents as well as movies, music, video, picture files. Just this single function has made the computer a superior device to al other ICT devices in its category.
