The Hard disk

The hard disk of a computer is the largest and permanent storage location of a computer. The operating system of any computer is loaded directly on to the hard disk and all other default files or folders are located in one place or the other in the hard disk.
Hard disk can be partitioned during the process of formatting and operating system installation. Therefore, after partitioning a hard disk the various partition can be categorized into root partition usually drive C:, recovery partition otherwise referred to as drive E: and the back up partition which can take from F:, G:, H:, and continues as the case may be. Drive D: in most cases is left for the CD/DVD ROM. Also created network hard drive usually called map drive network are normally labeled from Z:, Y:, X: and so on. In older computers with floppy disk drive, drive A: is usually set aside for floppy disk technology.
The root hard disk, drive C:, also referred to as the master record boot is where the operating system is loaded. Every other files and folders that make the computer work properly are saved in this drive. All installation of applications and software programs are also done on this drive.
Most contemporary computers have recovery hard disk. The recovery hard disk, drive E:, is the compartment where all default settings, system drivers and restore point are stored for ease of accessibility when needed.
The back up hard disk, drive F: downwards, serves as a supporting and saving grace tool whenever there is root hard disk failure i.e whenever drive C: fails. All files and folders saved in the back up hard drive can easily be retrieved whenever the root hard drive fails and needs to be formatted.
Hard disk technology has witness a lot of advancement. Hard disk technology started with the integrated device electronic (IDE) technology. With this technology, hard disk capacity ranging from 10GB, 20GB, 40GB, 80GB, 160GB and 250GB were developed.
The quest for larger storage capacity due to software advancement which the IDE technology could not withstand, the serial advance technology hard disk (SATA) was developed in order to increase the storage capacity of computers. SATA hard disk has storage capacities ranging from 80GB, 150GB, 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and even 1 terabyte.
Today, the world is talking about cloud storage technology as the new evolution in computer storage system. Cloud storage capacity is very vast and it is very handy, that gives it preference over IDE and SATA technology.

For me, it gladdens my heart when ever am permitted to share the surface and minute knowledge that have about ICT with the rest of the world. Why free hosting platform is better for newbies

These days, it is better to launch a site on a free hosted platform and then upgrade to a paid hosted domain when the site starts generating massive traffic and good income. The competition online now is so enormous that it is very difficult for a new site to start attracting a good number of visitors under a month talkless of generating reasonable income. The reason for this is not far fetched. In the past, a  site becomes a success witnin a short period of time because of minimal competition but today there is nothing to say or do online that someone else has not said or done and even better.
Most new websites fail to earn any revenue within the one year period of hosting. This is usually a very very big challenge for site owners because they find it very difficult and discouraging renewing their hosting plan when it expires. This invariably leads to abrupt closing of the site.

We are yet to see a solid mineral that can replace oil

There had been so much talk about diversifying the Nigerian economy since crude oil prices had fallen drastically in the international market. This development has affected the economy and brought untold hardship on the citizenry. One of the ways the present day government is looking at to diversify the economy is through solid mineral exploration. This is why the ministry of solid minerals has been on its toes, working tirelessly to come out with a solid mineral that can serve as replacement for crude oil.
Can this really work? These solid minerals are they really in abundance? Abundant enough to satisfy us as well as as the international market. Remember, crude oil is found in the Niger delta which is almost an entire region comprising of Eight states namely Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-ibom, Cross river and Abia states. In these states, crude oil is found both onshore and offshore.  Thus, it is abundant enough to cater for our energy needs as well as for exportation.
Solid minerals in the country are found in individual states. For instance, coal is found in Enugu, Tin in Jos plateau, Gold in Osun, salt in Nassarawa e.t.c. Non of these solid minerals expanse an entire region or Geo-political zone of the country. Only very few of them are really in abundance to earn foreign exchange.
Previous dispensations were aware of these solid minerals but never thought of exploring them because it would be futile effort. Let the truth be told! The only viable means of diversifying the economy is through agriculture.

Is displaying ads still a viable online business?

If yes, then why are sites displaying ads stock? No single earnings coming from the ads even with the huge number of people that visit the sites regularly. It seems visitors are now aware that by clicking on ads, they make money for the site owners, so they avoid it as much as possible. They only get whatever information they needed from the site and get out.
That is not fair, visitors should be aware that preparing this information takes a lot of time, hard work and effort. Therefore, site owners need motivation and encouragement to do more. The only way they can be motivated and encouraged is when they are able to make something from their effort at the end of the day.
Or, what of if all publishers now place subscription fee on their sites? Am sure you wouldn’t want that to happen. You still like to get information free of charge from the net, right? Then, help the publishers to help you too.

The fastest internet connectivity soon to hit the world

The world would soon experience the fastest internet connectivity of all times when the 5G networks is finally launched.
Despite the fact that the 4G technology has not gained its full potentials across the world and most 3rd world countries are just fine with the 3G networks, the world waits for nobody and is moving on to the next level.
Researches are already on-going into 5G technology and Researchers say by the year 2020 it would become a reality.
Great inventions that would rock this epoch include self driving cars, 4K to 8K high definition video, sensory internet(constantly monitoring and controlling), advanced virtual reality e.t.c.
Upgrading to 5G network would not really be a herculean task for the telecoms operators because most of the features that the 5G network would possess such as network functions visualization, software-defined networks, heterogeneous networks and low power, low throughput networks e.t.c are already embedded in the 3G and 4G networks. That makes upgrading as easy as A.B.C.

Universities that are still worth patronizing in Nigeria

Most Nigerian parents now prefer to send their children abroad for university education because of fallen standards of educational system in the country. They lack thrust and confidence in what universities in the country have to offer their children. The issue of incessant strike actions by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which disrupts the entire school calendar and prolongs the duration of study of the students also contributed immensely to why parents take the decision to send their children abroad to school. More so, preference of foreign graduates to local graduates in the labour market also contributed to this mad rush for foreign education by Nigerians. The quest is so severe that Nigerian parents now go as low as sending the children to university in nearby Benin Republic. The population of Nigerians schooling in Benin Republic is quite alarming.
Never in the history of JAMB has it registered up to 1.5 million candidates for its UTME exercise. The late commencement of registration resulted in several irregularities. Many candidates are likely to miss their exam because up till now they are yet to know their exam centers. Probably it is part of JAMB’S game plan slash the number of candidates to its barest minimum because universities in the country can only admit a quarter of them. This therefore means the remaining three-quarter candidates would have to seek admission somewhere else, probably in other countries.
Despite the fallen standards of education in Nigeria coupled with the fact that no Nigerian university is occupying a good position in world ranking, some Nigerian universities are still worth patronizing. They are:

1.Ahmadu bello University, Zaria

2.  University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos state

3. Covenant University, Otta, Ogun state

4. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Osun state

5. Babcock University, Iperu, Ogun state

6. University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo state

7. Nigeria American University, Yola Adamawa state

Ads Promo

Google adsense should as a matter of fact encourage its publishers by displaying promo ads from time to time on websites and blogs. Promo ads that can earn publishers $50 to $100 per click instantly. At least to compensate for low paying ads that often dominates the ad network.
Publishing articles is not an easy exercise; therefore, publishers need to be motivated in order to do more. A publisher is at its best when he is fully motivated.

How secured are you online?

The advent of the World Wide Web (www) popularly referred to as the internet has made the world a global village. With the internet in place, breaking news and information from any part of the world reach our door step within a twinkle of an eye. The internet has also changed the face of how we do business in the world today. Unlike in the past where a brick and mortar structure and location is required to get a business up and running, now with a computer and internet connection an online business can be established.Online businesses such as blogging affiliate marketing, online shopping mall, selling informational product, search engine optimization, facebook cash e.t.c have come to stay. A lot of success stories have been recorded of those who have made it online. For the fact that these online businesses can be ran from the comfort of our homes makes the whole idea of internet business a very interesting one to explore. Many individual have admitted making million working from home. Even many offline businesses are now creating an online presence because it is now known that the internet provides the opportunity to meet and interact with a wider audience keeping businesses open 24/7 365 days. Offline businesses can register an online presence through a website/weblog launch, social media pages e.t.c.
After all said and done about the immense benefit the internet offers to the world; is the internet really safe in all its ramification? Well, the answer is NO!
NO, because the menace of insecurity online has been a very big task for the world to tackle. Most especially the dangers of coming in contact with explicit contents by children who visit the web. There had been cases of cyber bullying, chat rooms have become dangerous zones as there is no way of  knowing if you are actually talking to a male or female and even no age barriers. Precautions must be taken by all an sundry to keep the internet innocent.
As the world embarks on keeping the internet innocent campaign, cyber crime popularly known as internet scam has been on the increase. Many have fallen victims to these scammers and defrauded of their hard earn money. To such people of had fallen prey, the internet is an highly unsafe zone.

What actually is a home and house

A home has various meanings. First of all, it is a dwelling place in the form of a physical building. Secondly, it is a community where members of a family live together. Theoretically, a family can exist without a house and vice versa. Furthermore, there are homes in which people are happy without having a grand residence while on the other hand there are cases of people leading a cold homelife in gorgeous mansions. In that sense, the problem of housing and that of home can be entirely different. We may even sing about our “home, sweet home,” no matter how small it is. However, I am afraid it is very painful if you have to live in a residence below a certain level of size and convenience. In fact, isn’t it only when the space of a residence is above a certain size that you can have the realization of happiness? A house is, after all, matter, and to be too particular about it may sound materialistic. But the building cannot be slighted as the foundation of an enjoyable homelife. Looking around I feel that no matter how much value we place on the intangible object we call home, we cannot know the meaning of it unless it is accompanied by a tangible object called a house.

CELEBRATING 17 years of G.S.M

How time flies? It is already 17 years of the introduction of G.S.M communications in Nigeria. It was like yesterday when in 2001 the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) auctioned Digital Mobile Licenses which led to the birth of three mobile operators in the country. They are Econet wireless, now Airtel Nigeria, MTN and Mtel. Then came a fourth license in 2002 which brought Globacom Nigeria into limelight. Globacom was tagged as second national carrier to strengthen and increase the telecoms backbone infrastructure in the country.
When we thought it was all over, a fifth Digital Mobile License was issued to telecommunications giant from the middle east, Etisalat in 2008(now 9mobile). Many saw Etisalat’s entry into the Nigeria market as rather late and wonder how its was going to catch with its already established counterparts. But Etisalat succeeded in proofing everybody wrong as it continued to grow from strength to strength attracting its own loyal customers. One fascinating quality of Etisalat (9mobile) which was instrumental to it success is its ability to roll out unique offers and promos.
This past 17 years has been very eventful in the country’s telecommunications industry. G.S.M communications has redefined standards in the country. Unlike in the past, where telecommunications was reserved strictly for only the rich and wealthy in the society. Today, virtually all and sundry own a phone in the country. Even primary and secondary school pupils now parade phones of various types.
The telecommunications industry also gave a face lift to the Nigerian labor market by creating jobs for the teaming population of unemployed youths in the country. Also professionals from other walks of life switch over to the telecoms sector as operators offer mouth watering salaries that in some cases are better than those in the banking and oil and gas sectors.
Mobile phones too have evolved over the years from simple  Nokia 3310 to more sophisticated android, windows and Blackberry phones carrying higher functionality like camera, radio, internet connection e.t.c

Before now

Gone are the days when parents restrict or discourage their children from venturing into certain professions or careers such as playing football, music, acting or even comedy. These professions have become one of the greatest money spinners in the world today. They have overtaken the likes of medicine, engineering or even law in terms revenue in flow. Today, you hear that a certain footballer or musician is worth so-so and so million pounds or dollars. Same cannot be said of a doctor, lawyer or even engineer.
In those days when parents catch their children playing football or moving with a musical group, they are in for it. This is changing now. Parents are now re-orientating themselves that the world has changed a great deal and professions they regarded as for drop out in past are now the money spinners and you could combine these professions together with going to school.
Parents even now pay for studio sessions for the children’s song recording. Encouragement you say! Acting, football and musical academy are spring up all over, teaching these acts as well as formal education.

Putting AdSense into check

Google makes adsense seems so easy a nut to crack as though one can earn money with adsense effortlessly. They display adsense ads on various sites such as, 'earn money with your passion,' 'make money with your blog,' etc. I tell you, adsense isn’t a nut easy to crack as Google portrays it. To get adsense approval on your website is such a ethic and herculean task. The reality of this dawns on you when you eventually delve into it. Ordinary adsense approval on your site can take you the next 6 months to one year of intense hard work with strict adherence their policies.  Tell me, is that an easy one? Then, after getting their approval, you need to work three times as hard as you did during the approval period toearn anything meaningful out with adsense. As if that is not enough, as soon as they notice that you are approaching the 100 dollars threshold which is the minimum pay out cheque, your account is disabled for policy violations. I mean, adsense sucks, damn!
This is the more reason why Microsoft launched its ad network program called Microsoft Pub Center (MPC) to give adsense a run for its money. No wonder Google now advertises adsense on various websites like never before. More so why  many websites are now crossing over to other 3rd party ad network programs like clicksor, media. Net, infolinks, B4psads whose minimum payout is lower and policies are very friendly. People now even prefer to advertise on facebook where they can readily meet targeted audience that can easily convert.
Not until we put a check and challenge Google’s kingship of the internet, this its power drunk attitude and activities would continue to pose a nightmare to us all online entrepreneurs.

Automobile beauty

The beauty of any car lies in its bumpers. Once the bumper is disfigured, the car automatically appears ugly. Automobile manufacturing companies are yet to come out with new innovations as regards to car bumpers that will be very rugged and able to withstand external forces to some extent.
The bumpers of the present day automobile are just too fragile for my likening. Just a small hit from the front or behind pulls out the bumper completely or better still disfigures it. I think bumpers should be designed to have a high level of tolerance to collision. Just an observation!

The fourth basic need of life

Today, one is tempted to say that the basic needs of life are food, clothes, shelter and telecommunications. Yes , this is because telecommunications has become an integral part of our lives that we cannot do without. Many would say, ‘without my mobile device or Pc I fill empty and not in the world.’ Others lament, ‘how have we been living in time past without telecommunications?’ A very true question indeed because today telecommunications affects all aspect of our lives from business, work, economy, politics, health, transportation, transaction, relationship to pleasure, love, hobby, networking e.t.c.
A school of thought even regards the internet as one of man’s greatest inventions.  This is a statement of fact because the internet  offers everything you can think of. It has made telecommunications become a need and necessity that we cannot do without. Before, telecommunications was predominantly voice communications until the advent of the internet which brought about a more robust method of communications called data communications.  As it were, data communications has revolutionize the telecommunications industry of the world. Data communications has transformed telecommunications into a basic need life with its vastness, converting farness to nearness thus making the world a global village.

Can Nokia stand on its feet again

For many years, Nokia remained the unrivaled king of the Smartphone mobile industry as it roled out phones that suit consumers needs. Well known for its ruggedness and battery strength, this made Nokia a brand to recon with any day, any time.
However, as time went by, the smartphone manufacturers market became a very competitive one. Rivalry smartphone manufacturing companies like Apple, RIM(Blackberry), LG, HTC, Infinix, Gionee, Samsung, Lenovo, Tecno continued to invest tireless effort into their products for improvement in order to give Nokia a run for its money.
Today, Nokia no longer lays claim to the number one spot in the global smartphone market, having been displaced by Apple Incorporated as the worldwide number one single manufacturer of smartphones by revenue, profit and volume.
Nokia has never been comfortable with losing the number one seat in smartphone manufacturing, therefore, in a bid to reclaim its position back, it is partnering with Microsoft to role out smartphones that work on windows operating system, hence the name windows phones. It already has Lumia 800 and 710 running on the latest 7.5 version of the Microsoft OS available in the market.
Whether this synergy between Nokia and Microsoft would help Nokia regain its lost glory as the number one smartphone manufacturing company in the world. Only time would tell!

Some distinguished areas in power supply

Despite the epileptic electricity situation of the nation, it might interest you to know that some areas still enjoy uninterrupted power supply that you wonder if these areas are still part of the country.About two-third areas of country suffer abject blackout with no hope of ever getting constant supply of electricity.
To mention but a few of these New york like areas are New Bussa in Niger state. Osogbo in Osun state, Agbara in Ogun state, Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi state Ijede in Lagos state, Aluu in Rivers state while areas like Ibadan, Ekiti, Aba, Choba, Warri, Surulere, Badagry and many more are in darkness. Infact the list is endless.
The irony of it all is that some of these areas in darkness are directly opposite or adjacent these areas with steady supply of electricity that you wonder again what is preventing the light from getting to them. Take for instance, Aluu and Choba towns in Rivers state are  directly opposite each other. Aluu enjoys steady electricity while Choba is in complete darkness. Similarly, Agbara and Badagry are adjacent each other but Agbara enjoys uninterrupted power supply while Badagry is in total blackout.
One peculair characteristic of these New york like areas is the presence of one electricity installation or the other to their advantage.
Osogbo for instance habors the GRID system. The GRID is a major power installation that connects all major generating stations and the load center. Osogbo enjoys steady supply of electricity as a result of this.
Similarly, Kainji dam is situated in New Bussa. Kainji dam is the nation’s number one hydro-elecric generating station. New Bussa is the only town in Nigeria that enjoys electricity almost round the clock, courtesy Kainji dam.
Birnin Kebbi  has one the nation’s largest transimission stations. This stations is used to export power to countries like Niger Republic and others. Kebbi enjoys steady electricity as a result of this transimission station.
Also, Ijede in Ikorodu axis of Lagos state host the famous Egbin thermal station which contributes massively to the electricity requirement of the nation. Ijede enjoys stable electricity due to the presence of Egbin in its vinicity.
Agbara too has an injection station that caters for the industrial power needs of the area. This inturn benefits the Agbara town and environs. Electricity is remarkably stable at Agbara.

Resist fake ICT products

The standard of living of Nigerians has fallen so low that we cannot even recognize substandard products when we see one. Even marketers now proclaim the counterfeit products as the genuine ones, confusing would be buyers the more.
The body responsible for inspection and regulation of all products manufactured or imported into the country i.e Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) is in deep comatose. Since there is no watch dog for standards as far as importation is concerned, the country has become a dumping ground for fake, counterfeit and substandard products.
The ICT industry in the country is evolving very fast and some miscreants are taking advantage of it to deprive populace of quality and genuine ICT products at affordable prices because of their own selfish gains.
Substandard ICT products have a damaging effect on the economy, posing grave dangers to the health, safety of the buyer and constitute environmental hazard.
The impact of counterfeiting on the economy cannot be overemphasized. Manufacturers of authentic products wriggle in pains as they lose their market to counterfeit dealers. This hit back at the economy, causing massive unemployment rate, loss of revenue and tax by the government, copyright and trademark infringement, unfair competition e.t.c.
Statistics has shown that over 300 million substandard mobile phones are sold yearly in the country. These phones, because of substandard materials used in their manufacturing can be very injurious to the user. Cases of malware, virus, spyware, trojans are on the increase because of the use of fake phones.
The way forward however is continual sensitization of consumers on the dangers of acquiring substandard ICT devices. Then, right and reliable contacts where authentic ICT products could be bought should be made known to the populace.

A Nigerian problem

In Nigeria, people prefer to patronize second hand products not only because they are cost effective, but because they are more durable than the new products in the market. The new ones are characterized by low quality; substandard and most times counterfeit while second hands are usually from original manufacturers and thus last longer.
This seems to be a Nigerian problem because in other countries it isn’t so. In other countries, new is new and the second hands are incomparable to new ones. This means that something is fundamentally wrong with our importation system in this country. There is no active watch dog as regards importation. So therefore, importers capitalize on this flock the market with substandard products just to make huge profit; turning the country to a dumping ground for all ground for all matters of product.
Consumers are at the receiving end as they have no choice but to patronize what is available in the market which can sometimes be detrimental to their safety and injurious to their health. This menace has become so bad to the extent that marketers even proclaim the counterfeit products as genuine, hence deceiving unsuspecting buyers.
Why on earth would a brand new generator last for just one year? Why would a new phone have poor audio reception? Or why would a new cloth fade out on first wash? Is it not better if patronize made in Nigeria of these products? At least that would help to develop our economy and create jobs for our teaming unemployed youths. Recently, I over head the vice president saying we don’t have any business with China if we can develop Aba. I think that would be a good initiative after all when given a chance to materialize. Really we don’t have any business with China if we can produce generators that would equally last for one year as those imported from china.
This I think is a totful thoughtful!!
