Sometimes in April last year, the news went viral about the move by telecommunications giant MTN to acquire the best and only surviving Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network in Nigeria, Visafone Communications Nigeria Limited. This move has become a reality in 2016. MTN has finally acquired Visafone. The deal was concluded and sealed earlier this month.
Nigerians expectations are high on this new development despite the recent fine challenged being faced by MTN. In recent times, their had been a decline in the quality of services delivered by Visafone. The signs were glaring that all was not well with the company. Apart from the drastic drop in broadband speed, Visafone patronaged dropped over time coupled with their inability to rectify network problems as soon as possible. Also, a typical Visafone shop was characterized by scantiness, poor maintenance and unavailability of their usual products like Visafone blackberry, regular phone products, accessories e.t.c. Only sales of Visafone recharge cards and solutions to minor technical problems encountered by customers were the services rendered in a typical Visafone shop. The handwriting was on the wall that Visafone was on the verge of collapse.
However, as a result of this acquisition, Nigerians expect improved broadband services, infrastructural upgrade, rollout of new services in voice as well as data communications and other value added services. Also there would be reduction in the present workforce of the company with fresh intakes to cater for previous lapses by the out gone management. A change of name and re-branding is envisaged. Likewise, a better service delivery and further expansion into new network coverage areas is expected. This will bring about an increment in their subscriber's base.
Tariff hike is inevitable. The new management must recover their invested money as soon as possible. MTN Nigeria doesn't slack when it comes to recovering their money!
This a but a few expectations by Nigerians from telecommunications giant, MTN as they take over the helm of affairs in Visafone Communications Nigeria Limited.
