Government needs to beam its search light on these
activities and address them on time because as little as they are or may sound,
they contribute a great deal in frustrating government effort in providing uninterrupted
power supply to her citizenry.
Take for instance the activities of generator merchants in
the country whose activities always tend towards hindering the actualization of darkness-free Nigeria. As far as they are concerned, if electricity works then
they would be out of business. Therefore, not until these merchants find an
alternative business that is as lucrative as generator business, they will ever
remain stumbling blocks to whatever effort government making to save the
country from blackout.
Other businesses that go hand-in-hand with generator
business like diesel and pms dealers, generator repairers, engine oil,
torchlight, candle, lantern sellers are all repulsive to darkness-free Nigeria.
Furthermore, talking about the nefarious activities of the
very PHCN officials or whatever they call themselves now. They go about
tampering with electricity installations such as removing cut-out fuses from
transformers in order to be bribed by local consumers before they can enjoy
electricity supply.
What about the activities of vandals. Unemployment has
turned many of our youths into vandals. They move from places to places
vandalizing electricity installations like transformers, high tension cables,
electrical poles etc. Not until government addresses the issue of unemployment
which would in turn solve the problem vandalism, vandals would continue
sabotage government effort in ensuring uninterrupted power supply to her
citizenry.
