What a typical MTN migration center looks like

A visit to a typical MTN migration outlet is a pathetic sight to behold. It is just a replica of what happened when MTN was fined by the Nigeria communications commission (NCC) for failure to comply with its directive to deactivate all unregistered SIM cards.

This migration exercise opens another round of stress for Visafone come MTN subscribers. On a very good, the outlet is already crowded with people even before 7.00am. On arrival, subscribers put their names down, and then wait patiently and anxiously for the attendants to arrive. More and more people troop into the center as the day gets brighter. An expression of mixed feelings about the whole situation is observed as each individual murmurs on how this development has affected them. At last, the attendants begin their work.

Customers are called to the migration table according to the list. The migration process usually takes a while to complete, thus, affecting the number of clients that can be attended to in a day. Many spend the whole day at the outlet without achieving anything. Sometimes technical problem like network failure and logistic problem like exhausting available new numbers before the day runs out may occur, bringing the migration exercise to an abrupt end for that day. Unattended to customers have no choice but to return the next day or some other time.

Some migration cases are not possible presently, such as those of clients having fixed lines. Clients that fall into this category are asked to come in a week’s time because migrations for fixed lines are not available yet. But the truth is that MTN does not have the capacity to migrate these lines presently.

Affected subscribers are confused on whether to dump Visafone come MTN for other networks or wait until fixed lines are available for migration. When that would be, never can tell!

In conclusion, due to the population of people that storms a migration center, the attendants are usually under pressure and worked up. This sometimes makes them to over react unnecessarily to clients, thus, making the whole atmosphere tensed up.
